Besides the djembe you can hear the saouruba drums and the triple string instrument ekonting, both of them from Casamance, and more familiar instruments like the kora. There are also many guitar players.
The lessons are held by professional local musicians. One of these teachers is Bakary Sagna, who runs one of the best music and dance groups in the whole area and is a wizard on the djembe. Many other local musicians also drop by TinTing to hold drum and dance lessons, that can be tailored to everybody´s interest: both for the ones starting out, and for those who would like to advance.
TinTing is always open, but for anybody who loves music, it’s worth noting the festival at Abéné from till January 2nd i till January 2nd. This festival is the highlight of the year for the local community. During the festival you take part in the local New Year’s celebrations, with big bonfires on the beach, together with hundreds of other guests at the festival.
